Ashley, is a faithful 4pm’er and you can always find her with a smile. If you look up “Override Community” in the dictionary I’m pretty sure you’ll see her picture ;)… However, I remember first talking to her and how nervous she was about making the switch to CrossFit. Like many others, she felt it was too intense, and she wasn’t ready. Fast forward to now it seems silly to think she once thought this as she continues to crush workouts, prove herself wrong and is definitely not shy about CF and bagging on the coaches.
Here’s her story…
“When I heard about Crossfit I was very skeptical about it. I played sports throughout my whole life, but in the gym I was more of an Elliptical and cardio machine person. When I was first asked if I wanted to do a crossfit class I laughed, and said no. After much convincing I found myself signing up for a 2 week trial. After a year I was hooked. I was all about Crossfit. I loved the workouts, I loved the lifting and most importantly I saw a drastic change in my physical and mental health. I even started to buy “Crossfit” things like shoes(too many shoes), grips,a jump rope, clothes etc. I was at a different Crossfit Gym before I arrived at Crossfit Override. The Crossfit I was at was great, but it was making a lot of changes… I felt like it was time for me to also make a change. I heard about Crossfit Override from some friends and decided to check it out, and I am sure glad I did because it was definitely the change I needed 🙂
“My favorite part of Override is the “family” that you become a part of. When I stepped into the gym for my first class with Coach Marsh (Yeah i’m surprised too that I actually came back LOL), I was welcomed with open arms by every person in the gym and everyone made me feel comfortable for my first WOD. I remember after that first class, I met coach Nick and coach Eric and a few of the members and we just chatted in the lobby about life and it truly felt like we had known each other for years. The CFO family is filled with a bunch of beautiful, kind, crazy, supportive and loving people and I am so lucky to be a part of this family.
What has changed for you since joining Override?
Override is my happy place. It is a place for me to just forget everything that I may have going on in my personal life, work life etc. It has changed me physically, I feel strong, healthier, and beautiful. It has changed me mentaily, I feel happier, I have become a goal setter and getter lol, and It has made me realize that I CAN do anything I put my mind to.
I feel like I have hit a few bright spots and gym PRs, but one that really sticks out to me was actually in the open this past october. Workout 20.4 had Clean and Jerks in them, and the most I have cleaned was 135 and the most I have jerked over my head was 115. So after the 30 pistols I got back to the bar where I had to complete 10 Clean and Jerks. These next set of Clean and jerks were going to be 145lb. In my mind I was saying “There is no shot. I am getting this up and over my head right now, but let’s give it a try”. I looked at Coach Amy who was my judge and she goes “ LET’S GO,You got this, pull hard” and I got set up, took a deep breath and I did it! I did a 145lb clean and jerk for the first time, and the best part was I remember dropping the bar and getting so pumped up, that I was able to do it five more times after that.
I think my favorite memory would have to be this year’s Superhero Toy Drive workout. Those workouts are so special because it is for such a great cause and overall just a fun day(even though some would not say hero wods are fun). A hero workout every hour on the hour is definitely tough and I remember last year I only did 3 out of the 8 workouts. This year I did 7 out of 8 WODs and I remember I didn’t have a partner for one of the last workouts and was just going to do it myself. But Sue Chiovitti comes over and says to me “Ash, you need a partner, I’ll be your partner, let’s do this”. This right here people is what makes Override the best crossfit community because no matter what you are never left alone, there is always someone there to pick you up and keep going. 🙂
What are you working on now?
Things I am working on now:
No modified push ups because modified push ups are for weenies (Quote from Marsh).
RX as many workouts as I can-even if i don’t want to, I will always grab the 35lb dumbbell and pick the assault bike especially if Nick is coaching.
Working on my mobility(mostly squat position)- because everyone needs to improve their duck walks right?
What’s your favorite Override memory?”
